Description

Organic Whole Nutmeg is something special.

Organic Whole Nutmeg is a very special spice which tastes delicious ground straight into your dishes.  This fragrant spice goes well in a range of sweet and savoury recipes including curries, sauces and puddings.

If you want to get technical then nutmeg is actually a seed from a tree which is native to Asia.  The tree reaches about 60ft tall and the first harvest takes place when the tree is 7 years old.

This magical seed lends itself to sweet and savoury recipes and once you try organic nutmeg freshly ground you will never buy it ground again.  Whole nutmeg has a much longer shelf life than ground nutmeg so preparing it yourself is a good choice.

A great place to start is making your own garam masala spice mix for a fragrant curry or twinning it with cinnamon and maple syrup for a delicious rice pudding.

Origin: Indonesia

Allergen Information: Packed on premises that handle gluten, tree nuts, sesame, soya, peanuts.

Storage

For optimum freshness keep in a cool place away from moisture and direct sunlight.  Store in a tightly sealed bag or container.

Family Tip:

  1. We can’t help but think of rice pudding when we hear the word nutmeg. We have discovered it can be made deliciously with brown rice, raisins, cinnamon and nutmeg.
  2. Nutmeg goes surprisingly well in hot chocolate!
  3. Fresh nutmeg ground on the spot is so much more fragrant and nutrient dense than commercially ground nutmeg.  No need to buy a mini grinder (although they do look cute) just use the smallest setting on a 4 sided grater.
