Description

Although only created in the 1960’s, our Organic TVP is a kitchen legend.

Made from soy flour, our Organic TVP, otherwise known as Textured Vegetable Protein, or Soya Mince, is a great alternative to meat and is a fantastic source of protein, making it popular among vegetarians and vegans. TVP’s versatility and ground beef texture means it can be used in many different dishes, including tacos, meatballs, spaghetti bolognese and burgers, just to name a few.

Many people believe that TVP is just for vegetarians and vegans, which is completely untrue! Textured vegetable protein is easy to cook with and fits into many dishes, so is a handy product to have in the kitchen for the days where you don’t feel like eating meat. Plus, because TVP can be stored in your cupboard, it is a great staple to have lying about when you can’t quite be bothered to go to the shops!

Before cooking, TVP needs to be rehydrated and reconstituted before it can be used. To do this, use either vegetable broth/stock or hot water, though if you are making a recipe that would normally use beef, you can use beef style vegan stock instead to boost the flavour. Because TVP doesn’t have much flavour of its own, it is the perfect vehicle for any flavour you wish to add to it! If the recipe you are making already contains a lot of liquid, such as stews or chillis, you can just add our TVP straight in and it will soak up liquid whilst cooking.

If you are trying to make the switch to a meat-free diet, try some of our lentils, which can be substituted for meat. For every 500g of ground meat that you are planning to use, you can instead substitute this for 150g of uncooked lentils, which when cooked, will result in 500g.
