Organic Emmer Flour is an ancient ingredient originating in Italy.

Organic Emmer Flour is produced from an ancient grain known as Emmer (or Farro).  Emmer is an ancestor of duram wheat so it works perfectly in a wide range of recipes including breads, pastas and cakes.

Emmer and its products are a popular alternative to modern wheat varieties because some people find it easier to digest.  This may be because it is genetically simple (emmer has 28 chromosomes and modern wheat can have over 200) and it is a lower gluten grain.

Organic Emmer Grain was among the first cereals cultivated and it has a deliciously nutty flavour.  Emmer is harvested at its peak to get the fullest flavour which makes it a great bread flour.

For optimum freshness keep in a cool place away from moisture and direct sunlight.  Store in a tightly sealed bag or container.


Family Tip

  1. Emmer has a great earthy flavour so makes a great flour to use for breads and rolls.
  2. If you are starting out with Emmer Flour you could combine it with a wholemeal or white flour as you experiment.
  3. This ancient flour can replace any wholemeal flour in a recipe, but you may need to experiment as it is slightly denser.
