Description
Organic ground mace is the sibling spice of nutmeg.
Organic ground mace is produced from the coverings of the nutmeg seed whereas the nutmeg is the seed.
Although they come from the same tree they are very different spices. Mace has a spicier, more intense flavour than nutmeg. Mace is more similar to black pepper. Some recipes call for a 1/4 of the amount of mace than nutmeg if substituting.
Mace has a warm, earthy, aromatic flavour so pairs really well with berries, crumbles, cakes, bread, pies and even sweet potatoes, root vegetables and squash.
