Organic Spelt Flakes are perfect for muesli or granola bars!

Organic Spelt Flakes are made from spelt berries which are an ancient cereal grain closely related to wheat. Spelt is considered ancient because it was first cultivated 9000 years ago. The grain is lightly toasted and then rolled in a press that flattens the grains into flakes that can be easily used in foods and recipes.

Many people prefer Spelt to ‘modern’ wheat because its DNA has not been changed by farming methods and it has a more extensive nutritional profile.  It has a nuttier taste than milder tasting wheat which makes it popular with alternative bakers trying new grain combinations.

Some people who cannot tolerate wheat find spelt does not cause them problems because the gluten is water soluble and more easily broken down.  Spelt flakes can be used in a wide range of recipes and make a great addition when baking.

Cooking Instructions

  1. Place around 40-50g of flakes in a pan with 1-2 cm coverage of water or milk
  2. Bring to the boil
  3. Reduce heat and stir for 5 minutes until oats become nice and creamy.
  4. Add more boiling water or milk for required consistency.
  5. Spruce up with goji berriescacao nibsflaxseedmaca powder or any other nutritious wholefoods or fruits you can think of!


For optimum freshness keep in a cool place away from moisture and direct sunlight.  Store in a tightly sealed bag or container.


Family Tip:

  1. Spelt flakes are a perfect addition to muesli mixes in the place of wheat.
  2. If you enjoy porridge oats then try mixing 25% spelt flakes in with your usual mix.
  3. Granola bars are great with added spelt flakes.  They help bind and add depth of flavour.
