Vitamin A is a fat soluble vitamin which we store in our livers.
Here at Forest Whole Food we think being a ‘food detective’ is so important in today’s world. Nutrition facts are fun once you start learning the ropes so we make sure we share as much information as possible.
Vitamin A is a powerful antioxidant which comes it two forms, one of which is preformed (retinol) is only found in animal products. The other type is formed from carotenoids which are yellow organic plant pigments – these can be converted to Vitamin A. Vitamin A is destroyed at high temperatures so foods which are cooked for over an hour will have lost their Vitamin A.
Vitamin A supports:
- Normal iron metabolism
- Normal energy-yielding metabolism
- Normal mucous membranes
- Maintenance of normal skin and vision
- Function of the immune system
- The process of cell specialisation
